BANBAN Waste Group

How is the Select Committee funded?

Following length negotiations between BAN Waste and Newcastle City Council, the Council agreed to provide some funding in kind for the Select Committee inquiry, but no money to pay for expenses of the chair, members or expert witnesses. Therefore, external funding was sought, and over £100,000 was obtained to carry through the project and to support its administration and evaluation.

The sources of funding for the BAN Waste Select Committee are as follows:

Atlantic Philanthropies
£85,000 comes from a private source (previously identified as Funder X), the Atlantic Philanthropies organization domiciled principally in Bermuda. This funding was originally granted anonymously, in accordance with the standard grant-giving conditions of the organization. The funders no longer pursue a policy of anonymity, but remain committed to keeping a low profile and not seeking publicity for their organization.
Millfield House Foundation
£16,000 comes from this Newcastle-based Trust, which has generously supported BAN Waste from its beginning.
Newcastle City Council
The City Council provides support in kind, in the form of a venue, provision of facilities, support staff and printing costs.
