Photo Gallery Help

Viewing the photos within the gallery should be self-explanatory, just click on the albums and thumbnails as required. The largest photos will be shown in an "intermediate" size when you click on the thumbnail (to save download time): for the full size, you will have to click again on the intermediate sized photo. For the purposes of this site, you can assume that permission is given to use the photos for personal or campaigning purposes so long as the coalition is asked first, but that they cannot be used for commercial purposes without explicit permission. (If you contact the coalition, we'll track down the copyright owner and pass on your request to her.)

Uploading your photos to the site

Members of the coalition can upload your own photos directly onto the site, using the Username and Password sent to the mailing list (ask at one of our meetings if you've not got these). Here's how:

  1. Use the Login link at right hand side, above photos.
  2. A new window will appear, enter the Username and Password into it, and click on the Login button.
  3. The main gallery window will redraw itself. If there is a suitable album already for your photos, click on it, otherwise use the new album link.
  4. Use the add photos link within the album.
  5. A new window will appear. I suggest you use the top half of the form, with the Upload Now button. You will probably want to un-check the Set photo captions with original filenames checkbox. Note that this window will redraw itself (almost) as soon as you change the number of files you want to upload setting.
  6. You will have to wait a while for your photos to be uploaded into the website, and then a bit longer for them to be processed, thumbnailed, resized etc. At the end of the process, you can click on Dismiss to make the upload window go away and the main window will redraw itself.
  7. Use the drop-down menus beneath the photos to Edit caption or Rotate photo as required (neither may be needed). If you choose to Highlight photo, then that photo will become the one shown for the album on the front "gallery" page.
  8. Go back to the main gallery page. If you created a new album, you can now use the Title, Description and Rename links.
  9. Finally use logout on right hand side to see the gallery/album as other users see it.

The process takes a few minutes, it will be quicker if you don't have too huge photos to upload: where the photo quality allows, please try to keep to a maximum size of 640x640. If you have any problems, contact the website maintainer address at foot of page, and/or just email the photos to that address and I'll upload them some time.

Notes for copyright and privacy issues

If uploading your own photos, note the copyright-ish notes stated above and on the gallery page itself. If these offer insufficient protection for your photos, get in touch with the website maintainer, initiate a discussion on the email list or raise it at one of the coalition meetings. If we get any requests to publish, I'll put a note onto the mailing list to track down the photographer/copyright owner.

Please be aware that some people might not want their photos to be published on the web for a variety of reasons, so if you didn't check with the people whom you were photographing when you took the photos, you might want to check now, before uploading them....
